THANK YOU TRAINERSPOTTER

Some people get all riled up when bloggers post personal style shots with clothing sent to them by the companies they write about. They think that style bloggers shouldn’t be influenced to wear certain clothing because it was free.

Are you kidding me?

If a company is nice enough to send me some free gear THAT IS THE BEST WAY TO MY HEART AND I WANT TO REP THOSE CLOTHES!  If I’m already writing about them I’m obviously already a fan. And I am not a rich man, so rad new clothes are AWESOME.

So, when the generous folks at Trainerspotter asked if I would like something to wear from them, of course I was like, HELL YEAH. I was expecting maybe a toque or a t-shirt… But when I opened up the box from FedEx, they sent me…

CHEAP MONDAY DOUBLE SHOT: A/W 2011 & S/S 2012!

I am not fond of Winter.

Here in Vancouver it means grey skies and rain. And more rain. So, any reason to look forward to spring sounds good to me!  My favorite Swedish label Cheap Monday have already released their Spring/Summer lineup, so I couldn’t help but have a look at both their Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer Collections.

The Cheap Monday Autumn/Winter collection has a great industrial/futuristic feel (and I love that they took their inspiration from futurist Ray Kurzweil) and their Spring/Summer collection is everything I could ask for: bright colours, a mix of loose and slim silhouettes and a great high-style overall look.  I would wear it all.

They have had runway shows for both collections already, which we will have a look at here, and a look at a few of my favorite samples from the collections and their look-books, respectively.

C/O CheapMonday.com:

A/W 2011 INSPIRATION

~According to Ray Kurzweil, the Singularity is near. This is the point when technological progress is so fast that we are unable to control or fathom what is going on anymore. We have looked at different scenarios when predicting the future, the future of consumer behaviors, fashion and living. Extreme predictions and mind-bending conceptions of how life will be not so long from now leads to theories and off shoots that might seem beyond belief, becoming even more intriguing.

THE DUTCH ARE FROM THE FUTURE

Future Sentiments are from Amsterdam, and they definitely have a unique style. Though not overly complicated, their tops stand up on their own so well that anything else you wear would need to be a lot more subdued (black jeans would go well with any of their shirts).

CAP IT OFF.

Today’s post is  by guest blogger, Jill Magee-Fosdick!  Check out her lifestyle blog,         Stuff I Love!

One of the best ways to finish a winter look is to add a great hat. Fall/Winter 2011 has a  showcase of awesome options. However, I must say that my favorite is the traditional grandfather cap.

The Grandfather cap is often referred to by many different names including newsboy cap, driver’s cap, pageboy cap, fisherman’s cap etc. Whatever you call it, this hat has remained a stylish staple since the late 19th century. The modern day version of the grandfather cap has changed very little since it’s ancestor’s debut, but can be found in a stylish variety of colours and patterns including tartans, herringbone, and houndstooth.

Street Wear and Kids Bikes: ANIMAL BMX

BMX and street-wear go together like peanut butter and jelly

…and even more so in the street-riding scene on the American East coast where hip-hop and BMX go hand in hand. Quintessential brand Animal has always been on the forefront of the BMX/street-wear crossover, and their Fall/Winter lineup doesn’t disappoint.

BMX is a huge passion of mine, and I love when it mixes with fashion. Here are a few choice pieces from Animal’s 2011/2012 Fall/Winter Collection, and a few of the guys from the Animal Pro team.  Banger.

TRAINERSPOTTER AUTUMN/WINTER 2011/2012

Trainerspotter. To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

I will refrain from making any statements like “they’re blowin’ up” seeing as Trainerspotter‘s dedicated icon is a hand grenade. What I will say is that Trainerspotter are  producing some quality goods in eye catching colours with original designs.

From their site:

Trainerspotter began as a side project between two friends, Russell Gater and Daniel Savory, it was a kind of creative outlet, a project exploring sports heritage, street subculture and graphic design for their love of vintage sneakers. This quickly developed into a real brand and business as demand for the product grew not just in the UK but Worldwide. Inspired by Trainerspotter heroes such as Steve Prefontaine, Jeff Johnson, Geoff Hollister and Rudi Dassler, the initial aim of the brand was to tell the stories behind sneaker culture that nobody had heard before…  Click here to read the rest…

Their Autumn/Winter Collection has some great pieces that I would definitely rock myself, like any of the varsity jackets, crew neck sweatshirts (or tee shirts, or really anything from this lineup, it’s all good).

Here are some of my favorites from this collection:

QHUIT (Q8) Fall/Winter 2011

One of the front runners of French street wear right now is QHUIT(or Q8 if you like).  According to the world-respected WAD magazine (and hands down my favorite mag) “QHUIT is becoming one of the pillars of French street-wear”.

Founded in 2002 by Rhum G and Mook, the brand started with a limited run of graphic t-shirts,  in 2005 they produced their first collection of  colourful  graphic tees and hoodies.

In 2010, the Q8 Crüe opened its first store in the neighborhood that it was born, the Abbesses in Paris. Logically named “Chez Qhuit”, the store quickly became a favorite among street wear lovers, and known for its friendliness and cocktails.

I really love their fall/winter lineup:

A Brand Born Out of Pride of a Son for His Father

Before we talk about the clothing, first I need to say that I love to Freeman T. Porter story:

Freeman T. PORTER was a U.S. Army soldier from St. Louis, Missouri, with a suggestive first name. He landed on European soil during World War II.
This became the backdrop of a love affair that happened at a time that was anything but convenient for happy endings. The American soldier fell in love with a young German woman and fathered the son who will pay tribute to him several decades later…
Indeed, a German-American designer decided in 1993 to name the street wear clothing collection he had just created after his father, FREEMAN T. PORTER.

Freeman T. Porter is an all-American brand with creative direction inspired my the lives of American youth, but I think that with their stable of English, French, German and Italian designers, it has a distinctly European perspective. This is a good thing.

Their Autumn/Winter campaign is inspired by the streets of Brooklyn, and there are some truly excellent pieces in the collection.  First, to give you a taste, they have created three short videos that I must say are so much more well done than just a typical look-book.

Here is one of the three:

The other two can be seen here.

Here are a some of my choice pieces from the A/W 2011 collection:

This year I’m all about the military look, which is truly at  the heart of the Freeman T. Porter line.

Mr. Last name First name (Style on Ryerson)

Figure A. (out of focus as usual...fail.)

Figure B.

I really love Ryerson’s jacket. I’ve always wanted a pair of those shoes. I am jealous because I would look silly in that hat, and he doesn’t.  PS you smell like tequila.

One for the Boys: How to Size a Suit

Came across this excellent video on proper suit sizing that every well dressed man should know.  This video is one of an entire series from clothiers T.M Lewin, and they have an entire YouTube channel dedicated to sartorial education. It’s fantastic!

Holy T and A! It’s The 2011 Victoria Secret Fashion Show!

Now, lets not kid ourselves. I would be hard pressed to call any of this “fashion”…. maybe “bedroom fashion”.  But really, this is a circus. A circus with sparkles and boobs.

And that’s OK with me.

Kanye was there. Nicki and Jay-Z too.

There won’t be any commentary with these photos, as I don’t want to come off as THAT much of a perv.

Enjoy.

Good times were had by all. For more photos check out PopSugar.com

Murder at Lululemon

More controversy from the worlds leading yoga apparel retailer.

Via The Huffington Post:

Last week’s guilty verdict in the trial of 28-year-old Brittany Norwood — accused of first-degree murder in the grisly slaying of her 30-year old co-worker Jayna Murray — has brought to a close — for now, at least — the latest ugly chapter in the history of Lululemon, the posh yoga apparel company whose suburban outlet on the outskirts of Washington, DC was the setting for a killing that seasoned homicide detectives have described as one of the worst they’ve ever seen.  Read the rest after the jump on Huffington Post.

The Best of Fall Fashion

From the runways and the streets, fall fashion is here.  I asked my friends what their favorite parts of fall fashion were, and they let me know that everything from the cool days and rosy cheeks to the boots, coats, scarves and hats that come with the darkening days, and even the umbrellas that are an essential part of Fall here in Vancouver.

For inspiring today’s post, thank you to Caitlin Ffrench, Jessica Salloum, Jordan Pond, Jill Magee-Fosdick and  Amy Berry!

So, based on their suggestions, I’ve tracked down some excellent shots from the Fall Runway shows, the best of Lookbook.nu with fashion from the street, and a few other excellent sources.  So, this is Fall Fashion.

A great example of the Fall military look.  I love the buttons on the coat, the fitted rain boots and the military cap.

Opaque tights are big this season, and these tights paired with the deep red pea coat are absolutely fantastic.  c/o Lookbook.nu

The fur/faux fur hats are big this year, but I think it takes a person with a certain look and attitude to pull it off.  c/o Lookbook.nu

If I was skinny, I would dress like this. Love the military styling. c/o GQ.com

I think this sweater is all the more striking against the pale skin of this young lady.  I would have to say that I think red is my favorite colour of this season! c/o Lookbook.nu

A bit of  a more washed out look, with the contrast of the dark jacket and thick striped sweater.  I like the use of the  jacket as a cape.  Anytime I see sizes playing against each other, like skinny jeans and big coats, I think it’s a win. c/o Lookbook.nu

Another great example of the military inspired Fall style.

Something that I think every well dressed man should have this season is a wonderful chunky cardigan like this one.  c/o GQ.com

A look from Burberry’s Fall Collection. A simple pea coat, but being so fitted a trimmed with fur makes it just a bit more special.  I dig it. c/o GQ.com

A great mix of colour with the shoes, jacket and scarf. I love any outfit that brings a pop of colour to the darkening fall days. c/o Lookbook.nu

Last, but definitely not least, is this adorable and cozy looking sweater. c/o Lookbook.nu

These were some of my favorite looks for the Fall Season, I hope you liked them too!
